A stack of bills have already been filed and is available online, which gives everyone a preview of some of the issues ahead during the 2009 sixty-day legislative session. In the past, interested parties could only guess and listen to the behind-the-scenes talk about a bill, its contents and possible implications if passed.
Now it's a simple matter of visiting the web site for the state legislature. The prefiling period lasts until January 16th.
The changes result from legislation passed last year permitting early filing. This isn't the only new feature on the newly-changed web site. Browsers can search legislators by their photos and more information is available from the various state agencies. This makes it easier for citizens to get the information they need when mobilizing support for various changes in the law.
Bills aren't always easy for people to read, digest the content and then organize support or opposition, depending on the nature of the legislation. This is why the new web site features are considered more voter friendly.
