The Constitution requires that lawmakers provide sufficient funding for schools.
Their own study told them they aren't. Will they do something about it or NOT?
Public school champion, Representative Mimi Stewart, is sponsoring two bills that would reverse the state's horrible practice of under funding education. House Bill 331 changes our state's outdated funding formula. The bill would base school funding on student needs including poverty, ELL, enrollment growth and other factors. House Bill 346 provides the funding for the formula and would provide over $350 million in new money for our schools by changing the gross receipt tax .5%. The bill also would partially repeal the 2003 tax cut for the top two income levels.
It's time to STOP under funding our schools.
It's time to SUFFICIENTLY FUND EDUCATION. Both bills will be heard Monday, MaRCH 2, by the House Appropriations and Finance Committee. The committee hearing starts at 1:00 PM on Monday or after the House’s floor session concludes. Call members listed below and leave a message: “PASS HOUSE BILLS 331 AND 346”. Committee members have often critcized public schools and public school funding. It's time to change the conversation and tell our elected representatives that we EXPECT NOTHING SHORT OF SUFFICIENT FUNDING FOR OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR STUDENTS.
Join us if you can Monday afternoon to support these bills in committee!
LEAVE A PHONE MESSAGE FOR COMMITTEE MEMBERS: “PASS HOUSE BILLS 331 AND 346 - THE BILLS TO PROVIDE SUFFICIEINT FUNDING FOR OUR SCHOOLS - OUT OF YOUR APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE AND ON TO THE FLOOR FOR A FINAL VOTE. IT'S TIME TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT FUNDING FOR OUR SCHOOLS. OUR CHILDREN, PARENTS, TAXPAYERS AND EDUCATORS DESERVE NOTHING LESS THAN A FULL VOTE ON THE FLOOR OF BOTH THE HOUSE AND SENATE ON THESE BILLS! “
