DID YOU KNOW?
Pre-Retired/Retired Members
Insurance needs don’t disappear in retirements. Often those needs become more complex. Saving money is important but disaster can wipe you unless you have insurance to cover the things you own and the people you love. Do some homework on the Internet, neamb.com or at a library or bookstore to safeguard yourself and your family. You may also want to look into Long Term Care and Life insurance for a spouse (pay for estate taxes for survivors).
Mid-Career Members
Purchasing term insurance rather than purchasing several specific insurances can be an important strategic move as it often offers broader coverage and is usually more economical. Choose a policy that’s affordable to your current income, if you own a home consider an “umbrella liability” policy that offers additional protection.
Younger Members
You should have health insurance to cover you for a short period or maybe a long time in case you have an accident or illness that prevents you from working. And equally important to you is protecting your income – usually your biggest asset with disability insurance. Along with auto insurance it is important to have home or renter’s insurance that covers home theft, damage, personal injury and clean-up expenses.
Good News for “First-time” and “Repeat” Homebuyers!
For a limited time, qualified “first-time” homebuyers may receives a tax credit up to $8,000 as part of the extended First-time Homebuyer Tax Credit and Advance Loan Program. “Repeat” homebuyers who have owned their residence for 5 consecutive years may qualify for a tax credit up to $6,500. Check with your tax advisor and then call the NEA Home Financing Program for details (1-800-NEA-4-YOU (632-4968).
