NEA will honor New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson with America's Greatest Education Governor Award on Friday, July 3, 2009 at the national NEA Representative Assembly in San Diego. The annual award recognizes and honors governors who have made major, state-level education strides that improve public schools.
Gov. Richardson will be recognized for a number of his accomplishments, including efforts to improve early childhood education, student wellness, teacher compensation and student achievement assessments.
Nearly 10,000 educators from across the country will debate and vote on pressing issues facing their schools, their students and their profession at the Representative Assembly which is the highest decision-making body within the 3.2 million-member NEA.
New Mexico has a delegation of about 40 people from locals around the state.
