Lt. Governor Diane Denish will host a Graduation Summit in Las Cruces, NM on September 10, 2009 to call attention to the need to improve graduation rates statewide. The Summit will convene over 500 stakeholders including young people, educators, lawmakers, administrators, the business community, nonprofits, and others to come up with ideas and action plans to address critical issues. The Summit is connected to a national effort led by America’s Promise to address graduation rates. Summits are taking place in over one hundred cities and states this year.
WHO SHOULD REGISTER?
Everyone. Especially young people. The summit has the capacity for 500 people, the goal of which is to have over half the audience being young people who are encouraged to attend. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult or a sponsoring organization and must have completed necessary permission forms.
WHERE WILL THE SUMMIT TAKE PLACE?
The Summit will be held on the New Mexico State University campus in Las Cruces. All Summit activities will take place in the Corbett Student Center.
WHEN IS THE SUMMIT?
September 10, 2009 from 9:00am - 4:30pm. Checkin and registration starts at 8 am.
HOW MUCH DOES REGISTRATION COST?
The Summit is FREE. You need to preregister yourself and any young people attending at
the Summit web site.
IS LODGING AVAILABLE?
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sleep Inn in Las Cruces. The Summit will pay for one night lodging for young people (two people per room) at the hotel. WHO SHOULD MAKE THE ACCOMMODATIONS WITH THE SLEEP INN?
You should make accommodations for yourself and for any youth who are coming to the Summit with you. Please also be sure you have the appropriate permission forms for all young people under 18 attending.
IS ANY ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR TRANSPORTATION?
If you are chaperoning a group of young people, please arrange for transportation, and you and your organization will be reimbursed, provided an estimate of transportations costs is provided prior to the event. Please send an email to sandra@threesixtynm.com for preapproval.
WHAT ABOUT MEALS?
Lunch is provided on Thursday, Sept 10th and there will be snacks and beverages available at the Summit all day.
